Moving Day

No, I’m not moving the site again and no, I’m not leaving the state. I don’t usually talk about work, but today I got to move my office. We work in cubicles. When I started working at my current job 6 months ago I was given the only available cube. It happened to be right across from my manager’s and boss’s offices. This was convienent, but that also meant I could hear everything going on. Plus, the cubes on the other side of the office have windows. You can’t see anything but the tops of the trees and the sky, but it’s a window nonetheless.

In the past month several people have moved downstairs or left the office. That left two open cubes against the window side. I had asked a couple of times to move and was told that I would need to stay where I was so that I was close. Last week, the boss said it would be okay for me to move. I was second on the list, but the first guy didn’t want to move. I got first choice of the two cubes.

Today I moved. It took about an hour, but I’ve got everything set up now. As I sit here and work I’m surprised by how excited I am to be over next to the window. I feel special somehow. It’s funny. I’ve been in a funk for obvious reasons this week and I was just thinking this morning that I needed something to cheer me up.

Who new moving would make such a big difference?
